Good news for fans of stylish strategy RPGs. According to Gamasutra"s latest weekly report of top selling games on Amazon, Sega"s Valkyria Chronicles climbed into the top-five best-selling PlayStation 3 games in the U.S. (coming in at number five), and all the way to top of the PS3 list in Japan -- a surprising resurgence for a game that"s already been tagged as a disappointment at retail.
The news was good enough for Sega to take particular notice, with the publisher issuing a new blog post in which they give themselves a few pats on the back. "Looks like all that evangelical work from the hardcore fans, coupled with the DLC and recent buzz about the game, is boosting Valkyria back up where it should be," the post reads. "It"s good to finally see some great news for a game that truly deserves it."
The bigger implication here, though, is what the sales boost could mean for the future of the would-be franchise. It was recently revealed that producer Nonaka Ryutaro is "very adamant" about creating a sequel to the game, and common sense, at least, would suggest increasingly better sales would only make that prospect more likely. Let"s hope that"s the case.
