Premiere of Xploder HDTV Player at GC 2006 - Leipzig, Germany

The new PS2 Xploder HDTV Player will be showcased at GC 2006, August 23rd - 26th

Last week Fire announced the launch of the PS2 HDTV Player - the ultimate PS2 upgrade that unlocks the capabilities of your PS2, allowing you to play games in High Definition (HD). Now Fire has confirmed that trade and press delegates will be able to see the application in action for the first time at GC 2006.

Scheduled for release on 1st September with an RRP of £29.99 (€49.99 / $49.99), the Xploder HDTV Player will be available for both PAL and NTSC PS2 consoles.

Xploder HDTV Player allows you to:

  • Select HD modes 480p, 720p or 1080i to give a clearer, crisper picture quality.
  • Choose from a variety of superior VGA options.**

Fire is recommending that members of the press, retailers and distributors book an appointment to see the side-by-side comparison of games being played with and without the Xploder HDTV Player as soon as possible.

As well as getting a first look at the Xploder HDTV Player, visitors to Meeting Room D66 in the GC Business Centre will be able to find out more about the new range of Xploder Media software applications, including Xploder Media Centre for XBOX 360, Xploder Movie Player for Mobile Phones and Xploder Media Centre for iPod.

Important note to Editors: Due to the amazing media response to this launch, Fire is recommending that all Press delegates reserve a specific time-slot for an exclusive demonstration of the PS2 Xploder HDTV Player at GC 2006. Requests should be sent to philholmes@fire-international.ltd.uk

The year-end report for video games held surprises as next-generation systems took a back seat to the old standbys.

With the imminent release of Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3), news of the groundbreaking features of the console have begun leaking from press sources around the globe.

The contrasting fortunes of two of the biggest players in the global gaming market were underlined today when Sony announced a 94% plunge in profits for the most recent quarter, while Nintendo said its profits over the first half of the fiscal year had more than tripled.

Pink seems to be the new black. There's a glut of pink gadgets hitting the market right now, from the pink DS Lite to the pink notebook (not to mention a number of mobile handsets). So it's no surprise to see Sony getting in on the act with the launch of a pink PlayStation 2.
