Foxx Lynch

The Kane and Lynch movie has had its Kane for quite a while in Bruce Willis, and now it's found its Lynch. Screenwriter Kyle Ward tweeted last night that Jamie Foxx is in as the psychologically unbalanced mercenary James Lynch. He had to clarify that he wasn't referencing the movie based on Uncharted that he's also writing, after one user jokingly asked about "a black Nate Drake." We previously reported that producer Adrian Askarieh was impressed by Bruce Willis' enthusiasm for the script. "He called it one of the best action scripts he's read," said Askarieh, "and Bruce is an expert in terms of action scripts because he's read everything over the last 20 years." Now Foxx, who is relatively new to action movies as compared to Willis, will be playing alongside him.

While Kane appears like he won a Bruce Willis look-alike contest, Foxx's resemblance to Lynch (above) isn't quite so uncanny. Very early rumors had Billy Bob Thornton pegged for the role, but Foxx it is. We'll keep you updated on the movie as we hear more about casting details and release information.

Between the first Sonic the Hedgehog reboot, Golden Axe: Beast Rider and other less than stellar titles, Sega's original IPs have taken a bit of a beating. No more though, the publisher said in a recent interview with Computer and Video Games.

"It's important that our old IPs are respected, [and] we need to deliver a good product," said Sega's Mike Hayes. "And in some instances we have done that - look back at when we re-did Sega Rally. It scored well and was moderately successful commercially. But then with other great franchises like Golden Axe we didn't produce a great game at all."

He continued, "Going forward, if we're going to look at any existing IP to bring out the locker, we have to make sure we get the quality to a level we now expect. I'm not saying which IP it would be - a Streets Of Rage, a Crazy Taxi, whatever. What we have to do now is build something that is 85 percent plus [rated]. We can't just get away with PR."

Xbox 360 Slim

Sony's PlayStation 3 may hold the title for heaviest console of all time, but with last year's release of the slimline PS3, the Xbox 360 suddenly doesn't look so trim. Microsoft might have plans to rectify that, however, as Chinese tipsters have posted images of what they allege is a compact, redesigned version of the Xbox 360 hardware.

Kotaku spotted the original forum post containing the supposedly leaked images. According to that thread, prototypes of the new Xbox 360 are already being tested at Microsoft's production facility. The source goes on to claim that the console will be considerably smaller, and will somehow integrate both the CPU and GPU on a single chip. There's also talk of another round of price drops to accompany the redesign.

All of this should obviously be taken with a manatee-sized grain of salt. Sure, the redesigned Xbox 360 could wind up legitimate -- the slimline PlayStation 3 arose from some equally unlikely leaks, after all -- but would Microsoft really introduce a hardware refresh when they're already so focused on the Project Natal launch? Let us know what you think.

In addition to releasing yet another ridiculous stunt video for Just Cause 2, publisher Square Enix has also revealed a bunch of statistics about the Just Cause 2 demo that's been making the rounds over the last two weeks or so. Included on the demo's stats sheet: over 2 million downloads.

Impressive as that number may be, the rest of the data Square cataloged is even more stupefying. Did you know, for instance, that demo players have exterminated a cumulative 30 million people on Just Cause 2's Panau Island? Or that they've also done enough base jumping to add up to the length of two Earths stacked end-to-end? That's more free-falling than even the most insufferable Tom Petty cover band could muster.

Look for Just Cause 2 on store shelves on March 23.

Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days

Got a soft spot in your heart (or maybe your head) for Kane and Lynch? It looks like you're going to have to wait just a bit longer for the sequel. Publisher Square Enix just announced Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days for an August 24 release in North America.

The follow-up to Eidos' controversial 2007 game pits the titular protagonists against Shanghai's underground crime lords. It also sports an entirely new, YouTube-inspired visual style, which you can see for yourself by watching today's new trailer on the game's official website.
