Technology has impacted on many areas of our life and also looks set to change the face of future warfare. Experts point to the impact of nanotechnology and biotechnology as well as subtler tactics like cyber warfare over the next 50 years. Competing ideologies will no longer be the cause of conflict, as was the case in the Cold War, it will now be a battle for dwindling energy resources, water and arable land.

Battlefield 2142 looks further into the future with a climate collapse and the dawn of a new Ice Age, throwing the world into panic and leading to global war. It offers a glimpse of how the world could be divided with two military superpowers pitted against each other: The European Union and the Pan Asian Coalition. In a dramatically changed environment it is an epic battle for survival using the most sophisticated technology the World has ever seen. Armed with a devastating arsenal of hi-tech weaponry, including assault rifles, cloaking devices and sentry guns, players will take control of the most lethal vehicles known to man. Massive battle walkers wage fierce combat on the ground, while futuristic aircraft rule the skies.
