With the release of the version 1.04 patch for Uncharted 2 today, players won't suddenly find any new features or anything particularly noteworthy added to either the single-player or multiplayer. Instead, it fixes a pretty serious glitch that has been preventing some players from being able to access the game's multiplayer. According to Naughty Dog, they began noticing last year that a "small percentage" of players were receiving an error message that read, "Error syncing player data." This new update fixes the issue for anyone suffering from it, with one caveat: If you were in that small percentage of players, your level has been reset to one.

This was unfortunately the only viable solution that Naughty Dog was able to come up with. To be clear, if you weren't affected by the bug, your level will remain whatever it was prior to the release of the patch; this is only a setback for the players who had been unable to play.

A blog post on Naughty Dog's website offered up an apology, explaining, "This was not an easy decision for us to make. Over time it became clear to us that there we absolutely no other option remaining to eliminate this issue for all affected and ensure it doesn't happen again. Our team here was tireless looking for a solution over the last few months -- we took a look at every possible way to address this using every possible approach we could think of and even ones we didn't think of initially. At the conclusion of our efforts to address this issue, we were left with the single solution we implemented in Title Update 1.04 -- to roll back accounts to Level 1 as part of the solution to clear up the 'error syncing player data' message."
