Any chance of a redemption of the title "The Godfather 3" won"t be coming from EA, revealed EA Games president Frank Gibeau last week. Speaking with the LA Times (via GameSpot), he revealed that there are no further plans to create another game based upon The Godfather license, simply stating, "We"re not going to do another one." He added that there are no Godfather titles in the works on EA"s current three-year production schedule. That news apparently wasn"t passed along to a Paramount spokesperson who told the Times, "Plans for the next Godfather game have not been decided."
But after Gibeau"s statement was made, an EA publicist contacted the Times and attempted to clarify the matter, saying, "We do not currently have a Godfather game in development ... Nothing has been decided as to future sequels. Paramount is a great partner."
Even with that much more generic and PR-like statement now to go on, we can still safely assume that this is the end of the line for The Godfather series as far as EA is concerned.
