Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, better known as Tycho and Gabe from Penny Arcade are well-known as the (snarky) voice of gamers, and the latest strip covering the launch hype for Killzone 2 is just too interesting not to mention. In a clever take on the Biblical Old Testament, PlayStation 3 owners are freed from slavery by a Helghast Moses. Finally, as you can see above, Moses parts the Red Rings. Get it?
While it"s a funny take on the topic, the Killzone 2 excitement is reaching pretty epic proportions. Metacritic has a long list of positive reviews, and our own review called it a potential 2009 "Game of the Year" contender. Around the office reactions to the strip have been mixed. Some have interpreted it as an endorsement for Killzone 2, claiming it will save PS3 owners from needing to apologize for their system; others see it as a prod towards those who are overhyping the game to unrealistic proportions.
Tycho"s accompanying news post seems to imply the excitement is genuine on their end. "And certainly, we can talk about enemy variety or whether or not it offers co-op or some other damn thing. But that"s that"s not what this day is about," he said. "The brushing breeze is redolent of bluebell. This is a day of rejoicing."
